If you haven't heard about it yet, you'll hear about it soon: an Australian girl who is famous on social media recently deleted all of her accounts, explaining that she got so frustrated with trying to create the perfect "image" of herself through Instagram and other platforms that she couldn't deal with it anymore.
Anyway, I wanted to share a few things in my life that have gone not so great recently in an attempt to show that every social media post is so, so far from reality. Chances are, coffee in an Instagram I post is purchased because I'm extremely sleep-deprived. As many have said before, no one likes to share the unhappy portions of your life - social media is the chance to make your life seem like one big, happy party.
So, here are five things that happened this week that I definitely would not want to post on social media.
1//I almost missed a deadline.
Long story short, I had a huge research project due and my group failed to share that it was due at 5pm on Monday. I had to rush my final portion because of this and it definitely stressed me out.
2//I dropped my phone in a trash can.
Yep, you read that right. In front of everyone in a crowded cafeteria, I had to get someone to open up the trash cubicle so I could fish out my ketchup-covered phone.
3//I forgot an umbrella.
It started pouring while I was at a dining hall, so I was stranded there for an extra hour longer than I wanted to be because I was not willing to do a ten minute walk in the pouring rain.
4//I woke up with 12 minutes to get to class.
Normally, I'm good about getting up in time to get ready and walk to class, but on Wednesday, I slept through all my alarms and had to practically sprint to class. It was so not pretty.
5//I've stayed up 'til 2am every night.
I'm not sure why or how I've managed to stay up so late every night, but it's definitely taking a toll on my health. To add to that, I've managed to become addicted to caffeine - hopefully I can ween myself off of it in the coming weeks...
