The Biltmore at Christmastime

Over Thanksgiving break, my family took a little trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. We went earlier this year, but we wanted to see it all decked out for Christmas. Let me tell you, the decorations were phenomenal. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside, so I had to sneak a few shots that, unfortunately, didn't turn out too well. Anyway - there was at least one or two Christmas trees in every single room and the grand dining hall had a 25-foot tall tree! It was incredible to say the least. Also, the tree on the front lawn (pictured above) is 55-feet tall. The whole place is quite spectacular.

Asheville is also quite the cute town! There are little shops and boutiques all over, as well as some especially great dining options. Asheville makes for the perfect two or three day trip, especially since a visit to the Biltmore takes up an entire day. I definitely want to head back to the Biltmore and walk the trails around the estate - there are so many gorgeous views of the house and the property that you wouldn't get if you didn't explore!

Also - I can't get enough of this sweater from Anthropologie! It's probably my favorite piece of the season.

20 Thoughts You Have on Thanksgiving

Welcome to part two of the Gal Pal Holiday Linkup hosted by three lovely bloggers, Cathleen, Cristina and Rachel. (You can find my first post for the linkup here.) This part of the linkup has a Thanksgiving theme. I wanted to take a fun little spin on the theme by doing a post inspired by the majority of BuzzFeed articles. (I did a similar one last year for the holidays.) I had too much fun writing this, so I hope you enjoy it!

1. Ooo I better get up so I can watch the parade!

2. Dang...already slept through half of it.

3. Something smells so good in the kitchen right now.

4. Should I go see what it is??

5. I shouldn't have gone to see what it is. Now I'm stuck shaving potato skins for the next hour.

6. Wait a second. I have nothing to wear to dinner tonight.

7. What about a flannel and jeans? Everyone loves a flannel and jeans.

8. Just kidding, mom said I have to wear a dress.

9. At least a dress won't feel too tight around the waist after dinner...

10. Did I just hear the doorbell ring? Are people really already here?

11. Shoot. This means I have to be social now.

12. Let's play a game called "Which relative will ask about my love life first?"

13. Congrats Auntie Ann, you win!

14. Alright, I can smell the food, I can see the food, now when can I eat the food??

15. Finally!!! Dinner time!!!

16. These potatoes are so good. (All thanks to my potato shaving skills, of course.)

17. This turkey is so good. (Though I do prefer ham...)

18. This stuffing is so good. (What even is stuffing anyway?)

19. Whoops. Now I feel like stuffing after eating too much...

20. Did I save room for dessert? No. Am I going to eat it anyway? Duh.

Rainy Days with Marleylilly

It's safe to say that I am in love with this rain jacket from Marleylilly. The second I put it on, I noticed how warm it is - even the pockets are fuzzy on the inside! It's definitely a heavy duty rain jacket that is perfect for the days when you have to walk to class while it's raining and cold. There's no doubt that I'll be sporting this jacket pretty frequently from now on!

Marley Lilly also sent me this adorable gold monogrammed necklace. It's perfectly dainty and makes for an adorable addition to any outfit.

Make sure to check out Marleylilly and all of their wonderful products!!

Winter Bucket List

The holiday season is one of the best times of the year, in my opinion. Everything feels happier and there are so many fun things to do. I love spending time with my family, baking holiday cookies, and watching Elf as many times as I can. And of course, every season comes with a bucket list, so here's mine!

Layering for Winter

After some weirdly warm November days, it's finally starting to feel like winter. I'm much too excited because some of my favorite items in my closet are winter-wear. Right now, I'm loving this sweater vest from LOFT. It's so, so soft and is the perfect addition to any long-sleeve shirt or flannel on those chillier days.

The Nordstrom Fall Sale is absolutely the best this year. Can we talk about 40% off Tory Burch Boots?? How much better can it get? I love this sale because it's perfect for kicking off your Christmas shopping. I personally like to get started early just because I always have a hard time finding the perfect gift for people.

Social Media vs. Reality

If you haven't heard about it yet, you'll hear about it soon: an Australian girl who is famous on social media recently deleted all of her accounts, explaining that she got so frustrated with trying to create the perfect "image" of herself through Instagram and other platforms that she couldn't deal with it anymore.

Anyway, I wanted to share a few things in my life that have gone not so great recently in an attempt to show that every social media post is so, so far from reality. Chances are, coffee in an Instagram I post is purchased because I'm extremely sleep-deprived. As many have said before, no one likes to share the unhappy portions of your life - social media is the chance to make your life seem like one big, happy party.

So, here are five things that happened this week that I definitely would not want to post on social media.

1//I almost missed a deadline.
Long story short, I had a huge research project due and my group failed to share that it was due at 5pm on Monday. I had to rush my final portion because of this and it definitely stressed me out.

2//I dropped my phone in a trash can.
Yep, you read that right. In front of everyone in a crowded cafeteria, I had to get someone to open up the trash cubicle so I could fish out my ketchup-covered phone.

3//I forgot an umbrella.
It started pouring while I was at a dining hall, so I was stranded there for an extra hour longer than I wanted to be because I was not willing to do a ten minute walk in the pouring rain.

4//I woke up with 12 minutes to get to class.
Normally, I'm good about getting up in time to get ready and walk to class, but on Wednesday, I slept through all my alarms and had to practically sprint to class. It was so not pretty.

5//I've stayed up 'til 2am every night.
I'm not sure why or how I've managed to stay up so late every night, but it's definitely taking a toll on my health. To add to that, I've managed to become addicted to caffeine - hopefully I can ween myself off of it in the coming weeks...

Dallas

This past weekend, I had the best time in Dallas, Texas. My roommate is from Dallas and asked if I wanted to come home with her for Fall Break, to which I of course said yes - I'd never been to Texas and I definitely wanted a break from dorm living.

To sum it up: we shopped, ate, and just hung out. It was so nice to take a break and not worry about school for once. Even though I had a few things to work on, I put them off until the end of the weekend - that may have not been the best idea, but it was definitely worth it.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was going to a restaurant called Rise. It's a soufflé place and is also apparently George Bush's favorite restaurant! We ended up sitting at his favorite table in the place. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was adorable.

We also did a little too much shopping. Long story short, I realized I fit into the kid's sizes at Vineyard Vines and went a little crazy, especially in the boys section. I ended up getting this, this, this, and this.

One of the items:

One of my favorite parts of the trip was Halloween night. We didn't have any plans, so we decided to take a trip to downtown Dallas where we took pictures with this really cool bridge and went to a chocolate shop. Not gonna lie, it was the best chocolate I've had in a while. (Plus, it's hand-painted, which makes it all the better.)

The trip was so wonderful. It was such a relaxing time away from UGA and I honestly didn't want to leave. The only thing getting me through is that Thanksgiving Break is less than 20 days away!

PS: While shopping, I noticed Anthropologie had their holiday items out, and I fell in love with this adorable plate:

Winter Inspiration

I'll admit it - I'm one of those people that switches into holiday mode the second the calendar hits November 1st. It's hard not to fall in love with the holidays right after Halloween - Starbucks releases its red cups, the malls put up Christmas trees and decorations, it's (almost) acceptable to play Christmas music, and everything starts to get happier in general.

Now don't get me wrong, through all this Christmas talk I'm not forgetting about Thanksgiving - it's one of the best holidays out there! It's so fun to see old friends and family you don't see that often.

With it being the beginning of November, I thought I'd share some of my favorite pins from my winter board on Pinterest!
