The Perfect Wedge

One of my goals for spring/summer, in terms of fashion, is to find the perfect wedge. It really seems as though every preppy wardrobe requires a wedge that shouldn't be too dressy, but not too casual. It should be able to match practically anything, while holding an entire outfit together. This sounds like quite a lot of expectations to place upon a shoe, yet I know that that wedge is out there, waiting for me to find it.

So far, I've narrowed my search down to these lovely picks below. I know I haven't seen all the wedges in the world just quite yet, so please share if your favorite pair isn't in this post!

1 Sweater, 2 Ways

Something I've always loved doing is figuring out how to wear the same piece in two completely different ways, which is what this post is all about. Below is a picture from an outfit I styled last week, and I adore the sweater so much that I wanted to wear it again...and again, and again. I thought I would share one of the ways I've styled it. I even ended up using the same belt! I've come to realize that a white cord sweater is the perfect piece to transition from a more casual to a nicer setting.

J. Crew Factory New Arrivals

With Spring right around the corner, the majority of stores are stocked full of new arrivals! It's the best and worst thing ever: best, because new clothes - worst, because my wallet is about to suffer. Navys and Cream/Whites are always a major player in my spring wardrobe, along with some classic pastels. I really love the J. Crew Factory Spring arrivals, so take a look at my favorites below!

The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie

If you didn't know, I'm constantly on the quest for the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. It's one of the only things I can decently make, and I think I found my new favorite! The recipe I found is from a site called Pastry Affair and they call the cookies "Salted Chocolate Chunk Cookies." The twist of it all is that the key ingredient is espresso powder! The powder makes the raw dough taste exactly like mocha ice cream, so I may or may not have eaten way too much of it. I thought I'd share the recipe here!

Salted Chocolate Chunk Cookies
Yields 1 dozen large cookies (or 2 dozen standard sized)
1/2 cup (113 grams) butter, room temperature
2/3 cup (150 grams) brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup (75 grams) granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons espresso powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup (125 grams) all-purpose flour
2/3 cup (88 grams) whole wheat flour
4 ounces (113 grams) bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
Fleur de sel or flaked sea salt, for sprinkling (not table salt)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract and continue beating until smooth. Gradually add the espresso powder, baking soda, salt, and flours, mixing until uniform. Stir in the chopped chocolate chunks.
Form cookies using 2 tablespoons of cookie dough (or 1 tablespoon for standard sized cookies). Drop onto a cookie sheet and sprinkle lightly with fleur de sel. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly browned. Allow the cookies to rest on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Anchors and Shades

I've always loved the nautical style of Apparel by PW's products, so I was very excited to style an outfit around one of their new sunglasses straps! They're extremely well made with a genuine leather strap, and are the perfect addition to any preppy wardrobe. These are perfect for a day at the beach, as well as a day at the derby! The other designs are just as unique, so make sure to check them out.

Other than sunglasses straps, Apparel by PW also makes belts and key fobs, which are worth a look as well!

5 Things to do on a Snow Day

In pure celebration of not having school today due to icy conditions, I thought I'd share my favorite things to do on a snow day! It's not actually snowing down here in Atlanta, but there's a lot of black ice on the major roads. As much as I would love to see some snow, there's no school, so I can't complain!

take advantage of the weather//If you live where it doesn't snow often, this might be your only chance to go sledding for the year! Grab an old fashioned toboggan or even a garbage can lid, find a hill, and have fun! If you live where you see snow way more often than you'd like to, maybe try one of the tips below.

clean out that old drawer//Snow days are definitely the days to get the things done that you've put off for a while. Whether that's cleaning out your closet, sorting your shoe collection, or organizing that junk drawer, there's always going to be something that needs to be cleaned.

catch up on your shows//We all have a long list of shows and movies sitting on our DVRs just waiting to be watched, and a snow day is the perfect day for that. Catch up on Netflix, watch an Oscar nominee movie, or binge-watch Shark Tank and 19 Kids and Counting.

do some planning//Take advantage of the fact that snow days mean no obligations. Get your agenda in order, update your budget/finance trackers, or figure out the details for that dinner party you've been dying to throw!

fix up your wardrobe//Online shopping is there for a reason! Browse the internet for some promo codes for your favorite stores, and get shopping!

What's your favorite snow day activity?

Kendra Scott

Kendra Scott is quite possibly one of the chicest and most classic jewelry brands out there. They stay true to the foundations of their style, while branching out into undiscovered jewelry territory at the same time. Kendra Scott recently released their Spring line, Avant Garden. If you haven't checked it out yet, do yourself a favor and click here. The collection is absolutely gorgeous, which is why I was delighted to review a few of the pieces!

Not only are Kendra Scott's pieces incredibly adorable, they're also made extremely well. The pictures above definitely don't capture all the detail in the stones of the bracelet and necklace - you'd have to see them in person to get the full effect!

What's great about these pieces is that they can also be layered with others. A silver watch or bangle could be paired with the bracelet, and a longer necklace would complement the necklace in this post nicely.

If you haven't already, check out Kendra Scott's new collection here!

Casual Valentine's Day Look

Believe it or not, Valentine's Day is right around the corner! 2015 has been moving so quickly that I was surprised to see that it's almost the middle of February. It seems as thought the older you get, the quicker the years fly by.

Anyway, I've put together a more casual look for this year's Valentine's Day. This is great if you're going on a low-key date or just going out for a fun dinner with your friends! (Which is what I'll be doing.)

Dreaming of Spring With Duffield Lane

With Spring/Summer coming up, I've been starting to look for pieces that I know I'll wear over and over again. When I received this dress from Duffield Lane, I knew right away it would be one of those pieces! It has a classic style that is great for practically any occasion. The quality is wonderful, too. I was worried that the dress would be see-through since it's white, but the fabric is extremely well-made, and there's even a lining! Here's how I styled the dress:

Let me know if you check out Dufflield Lane! Their products are wonderful and definitely deserve a look.

Special thanks to Duffield Lane for sponsoring this post.

Winter Neutrals

Dressing nicely in winter can be difficult. My favorite solution? Throwing a giant coat over your cutest dress. It helps if the dress has long sleeves, too, like the one I'm wearing does! My favorite detail of the coat is the flared collar; it adds an elegant, yet subtle detail.

When choosing a warm winter coat, it's important that it can match practically any outfit unless you want to buy a few in different colors. I went with a neutral because I knew I could pair it with anything. The style is also so classic that it could be worn with a nice dress, as well as jeans and a blouse.

Also, what do you all think of mixing a brown belt with a black dress? I've always been afraid to try the style, but I honestly love how it looks here.

Stay tuned, because I have some really exciting posts coming up!
