I get the question a lot: why do I dress nicely? Why do I shop so much? Well, the answer is simple: I feel like how I dress is one of the only things I have control over most of the time. If I like how I'm dressed, I feel more confident. I feel like I could do things that I couldn't do if I were dressed differently. That's just me, though. If you can take over the world in sweats and a tee, all the more to you.
If you don't know me, then you should know I'm on the shyer side of things. I struggle with raising my hand in class, with talking to people I don't know, and with what people think about me. That's where clothes come in: If I'm wearing an outfit I feel amazing in, that's one less thing I have to worry about. I'm not worried with what people think about how I look and instead I can focus on how I'm acting and what I'm saying.
Then there's the shopping: retail therapy is real, no matter what anyone says. My mom constantly tells me she's worried that I only can love material things and not people, yet that is entirely untrue. I shop because it relieves stress. I love the feeling of buying an outfit that I know will make me look more mature and help me with my confidence. Another thing: I look really young. I'm short and have a young face yet I'm a senior in high school. I really like being able to put on a mature outfit knowing that I probably have less of a chance of getting a kiddy menu at restaurants.
These are just my two cents though. Why do you dress up or shop? Let me know.
