Kate Spade

With all these snow days here in Georgia, I've had plenty of time to do some online shopping. Lately I've been finding myself on the Kate Spade site way too often so I put together a few of my favorite items!

Snow Day!

Snow is a rare, rare, rare thing in Georgia. The last time we had snow that stuck was in 2010. Needless to say, today was pretty exciting. We were released early from school and to top it off, we don't have to go to school tomorrow either!

Of course, I wore my Patagonia. I can't live without this jacket. It's a lazy day lifesaver.

Monday, January 27, 2014

It's a Monday. Mondays automatically translate to leggings because leggings are comfortable and Mondays are generally miserable. Even though it's a Monday, I still wanted to pull off the "preppy" look.

My sister usually takes my pictures but today she couldn't. Let's just say taking a selfie with a Nikon is not the easiest thing in the world to do.

A Pop of Color

Outfits tend to get a little drab during the winter. Grays and blues all blend together in one big wintry mix so I decided I would brighten things up with a little pop of color.
(It was actually snow-flurrying while my sister was taking these pictures.)

Rise and Shine: Five Beauty Products I Can't Live Without

You know those beauty products you constantly stock up on to make sure you never run out of them? I have a list of my own that make their way into my morning beauty routine just about every single day:

Sea Spray
I can't express how much this stuff has changed my life. All my years, my hair has been straight and flat. If I try to curl it, the curls fall within five minutes. I found this sea spray at Lush and not only does it smell amazing, spritzing it in my hair makes it hold some volume all day long! I love it!

Marc Jacobs Perfume
Both Dot and Daisy by Marc Jacobs are my number one go-tos for perfume. I can't go a day without wearing it.

Paddle Brush
This brush changes lives. A paddle brush does so much for my hair that it's kind of ridiculous. Hello, shiny hair and tangle-free locks!

Rocket Volume Mascara
This mascara from Maybelline is to die for. I don't go a day without it, partly because I feel naked without and mascara but mainly because it's so amazing! My eyelashes are practically nonexistent so this stuff definitely works some magic.

Seeing as fancy shampoo is a little out of my budget, Pantene is the next best thing. They seriously have every shampoo and conditioner for every hair type imaginable. They make a great volumized one for people with thin hair. (That's me!)

What are your beauty go-tos?

Stella & Dot Jewelry

This past Christmas, my mom got me the two cutest bracelets (below) I have ever seen. It turns out they were from a jewelry company called Stella & Dot. I looked them up and immediately fell in love with everything on their website. Here are a few of my faves:

Not My Week

*spoiler: I complain a lot in this post*

It's been one of those weeks. I'm talking about where nothing goes right and when you think you've finally gotten one step ahead, you quickly fall two steps behind. Here's a glimpse at my week:

not my week

My school is currently being remodeled, therefore parking is limited. For the past year, students would park on a side road next to the school. But, the police department decided that after two years of students parking there, this past Monday would be the day they finally come down and give us all parking tickets. My first ticket wasn't even something cool. There's nothing cool about a parking ticket.

After our parking was taken away, we all decided on a different, more remote side street to park on. Guess who paid us another visit? You got it- the police. I walked out to my car after school on Tuesday to find another wonderful little piece of paper on my windshield.

Yearbook is a really big deal at my school so we have a class for it. One of the other staff members and myself were assigned a spread (two full pages) last Friday that had to be turned in with a HUGE up and coming deadline. On Wednesday, we thought we were finally finished, only to find that we couldn't use half of our content because we couldn't get pictures to match the stories we had wrote. It was frustrating, to say the least.

After not being able to park on side streets anymore, the school finally found us parking spots in a shopping center about a 5 minute walk from the school. However, all day long on Thursday, rumors were going around about cars in the lot being towed. (Evidently, some students had parked in an employee parking lot causing that business to get mad.) But, after school, I was so relieved when I saw my car where I had parked it.

What could go wrong on a Friday? Apparently, a lot. After a stressful school day, my two friends and I headed over to the mall for some dinner at the Cheesecake Factory along with some shopping (of course). Once I got to my car to go home, I found that the light had been left on and therefore my car wouldn't start. We flagged down mall security and started my car with jumper cables. Yay.

Here's to hoping next week is better.

There's nothing I love more than wearing a button-up over leggings. It's just so... effortless! It's basically my go-to outfit when I want to look like I'm "trying" but don't want to give up the comfort factor. Flannels, plaid, denim; you name it - if it's a button down, I'll wear it.

What's your comfy go-to?

Gossip Sessions, Stress, and Starbucks

Sometimes all you need is a true, 3+ hour gossip session with your girls. It really does solve everything. You can talk about everything and anything from your favorite Starbucks drink to what you all should do on the next girls' night to how you're worried about a friend heading in the wrong direction.

This week, although it was only three days long, was our first week back after a long, amazing, and relaxing winter break. Already, school is killing me. The stress and anxiety that goes along with each semester is simply too much for me to handle. Today after school, two friends and I decided to head over to Starbucks, and before we knew it, we had been talking for over 2 hours. It was great.
After our almost 3 hours at Starbucks, I felt so relieved. We talked about so, so, so much. With bits of gossip in between everything else, we all got to de-stress from the rude awakening from our great 2 and a half week break.

I can't even express the truth in this.

Backtracking to what I said about the stress involved with school: After our first day back, I sat at my desk that night staring at my German homework. I legitimately started to cry, and it wasn't because of homework. (Although that tends to cause tears much too often...) I was crying because I knew the second I started that little piece of German homework, I would be starting another 5 months of sleep-deprivation, caffeine addiction, and constant thoughts of dropping out of school.

The thing is, I don't hate school. At all. I genuinely enjoy learning about the American Revolution, studying Richard Nixon's presidency in depth, gaining the ability to speak a whole other language, and so on. The thing that gets me is the pressure to do well; the pressure to get all A's; the pressure to get into THAT college. It's all too much for a 16-year-old.

Sometimes you have to remember it's okay to be stressed.

Yesterday in yearbook (it's an actual class at my school), I was talking with my teacher who supervises yearbook. I told her about how stressed I was to be starting a new semester. She comforted me with the fact that we are just getting back to the flow of things after such a long break and it's going to take some time getting to used to working hard again after doing nothing for almost three weeks. She went on to say that what we get out of high school isn't necessarily how to add 2+2 or to know what year Lyndon B. Johnson was elected. The point is to learn how to manage this stress for the real things in life. She gave the example of paying bills and such.

This semester, I'm going to try to not let the stress get the best of me. I know this isn't going to happen, because stress is inevitable when it comes to high school. I may try to slip in a few more girls' nights though. :)

Next time you're stressed, grab a cup of coffee with your girls and just let it all out.

Dress Prep For Less

Dressing "preppy" can be a bit of a... struggle, to say the least. Every time I walk into J. Crew or Madewell, I feel my wallet make a cry for help. (Can you see why I love sales?) Overtime, I've managed to pull together a wardrobe of so-called "preppy" clothes by shopping at places like American Eagle, Forever 21, Old Navy, Ann Taylor Loft and the sale sections of the high-end stores.

The only problem with buying clothes on the cheaper end is the quality. American Eagle and Old Navy and especially Loft hold up their ends of the bargain. You have to be careful with stores like Forever 21 - the clothes are great, but if you wash or dry or wear them too much, you can run into some problems.

Here's an example of how to dress preppy for less:

I found all of these pieces for great prices:

Necklace: Old Navy, 8.00 (Couldn't find a link to this one... Click here for a similar necklace from Baublebar)

Where do you all shop to dress preppy for less?

Five Favorites For Back To School

With school starting back again, I thought I'd share some of my favorite office supplies with you all!

office supplies

Okay - how adorable are these pens? The second I saw them I knew I had to have them! I use them for almost everything now.

I first saw this paper at Anthropologie, but you can also get it here. It's absolutely perfect for making checklists, which basically guide my life.

What can I say? These are a classic. Other than the 3000 checklists I make a day, this is what mainly keeps me organized. Other than being a great agenda, every page is more gorgeous than the next. (Yay.) Plus, it comes with stickers! (Bonus yay!)

I know, I know... Candles aren't technically an office supply. BUT, when I'm feeling stressed out, these really do the trick to make for a nice and relaxing environment. Let's just say I burn through way more candles than I should... (Plus: isn't this Kate Spade candle just the cutest??)

Other than my target pens, Sharpie Pens are an absolute must. I probably own at least 30 of these. They're perfect for anything you could possibly think of. Plus, you can find them just about anywhere!

What are your most used office supplies?

Late Resolution

I know the New Year hype has already come and gone in terms of resolutions, but I have one to add to my list: read more. The other day I was talking with my friends and the subject of books came up. Everyone was exclaiming over books like "The Fault in Our Stars" and so on. It was then that I realized that I just don't read enough anywhere.

I made up a few excuses for myself like "Oh, I don't have time," or "School comes first." Then I realized: if I have time to watch Netflix, why don't I have time to read? I used to be such an avid reader. My mom always tells me how when I was little, I would fall asleep with 10 or 20 books surrounding me because I could never make up my mind as to what book I wanted to read that night.

Here are a few books I hope to read soon:

Lilly Pulitzer SALE!

The Lilly sale is finally here!! Yay yay yay! I've put a few of my favorite items below. As you can see, I have a small obsession with navy blue.

52 Week Photo Challenge

I love, love, love photography. My problem: I always seem to run out of inspiration or motivation to actually take pictures. While scrolling through pinterest, I stumbled upon this great photo challenge. The goal: take one picture a week that falls under one of the topics. You do one a week in no specific order.

I began with self portrait. Here are a few of my photos:
